Acceptable Internet Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy specifies the rules and regulations of
Internet access, E-mail transmission and network use. Computer systems,
network privileges and Internet access provide business tools to enhance
the efficient operation of the county. It is the responsibility of all
county employees to use these tools appropriately. The county’s
computers, like all county property, are to be used for work purposes
only and are not to be used for personal reasons. All information and
work products contained in or created on all computers, electronic mail
communications and http downloads are public information, known by the
administrator and can be monitored. Violations of system or network
security are prohibited, and may result in criminal and civil liability.
Illegal Use
The network may be used only for lawful purposes. Transmission,
distribution or storage of any material in violation of any applicable
law or regulation is prohibited. This includes, without limitation,
material protected by copyright, trademark, trade secret or other
intellectual property right used without proper authorization, and
material that is obscene, defamatory, constitutes an illegal threat, or
violates export control laws.
Examples of Misuse
Examples of misuse include, but are not limited to:
¨ Sending unsolicited mail messages, including, without limitation,
commercial advertising and informational announcements is prohibited.
¨ Messages of a personal nature.
¨ Use of or accessing Internet materials including software, bitmaps,
or any other material for personal use.
¨ Use of or accessing Internet materials that might be offensive to
other county employee.
¨ Sending or forwarding messages or files containing county
confidential information to outside individuals or companies not
authorized to receive the information.
¨ Attempting to access files that are not authorized for an
employee’s access.
